If you were to go to a club, or out to dinner with a group of people and buy a round of drinks (for whatever reason)…it would cost you. When it’s time to pay the tab, you are expected to also pay a gratuity – a tip. I believe the gratuity rate is at least 18%. You just gave the waiter/waitress 20 bucks as a tip. So you’re gonna actually give God less?

When you go to church, they ask you to tithe – 10%. I think I’d rather have the tip from the club or restaurant. The church might be able to do more things with it.

When I look at the oil gushing from the floor of the Gulf of Mexico, I’m stilled stunned. I hurt as well as pray for the residents of the Gulf Coast.

How much oil is down there? Such abundance – causing such pressure – causing such a GUSHER.

The spiritual dimension, which I believe surrounds us, is filled with the abundance of God. Joy, peace, strength and unlimited resources are within our grasp. I believe there is great pressure pushing from the spiritual world upon the natural world. I believe the pressure is SO great that all it takes is our faith acting like a drill.

I believe if we break through with our faith, we will receive a GUSHER – a gusher of whatever you need right now.

Do you believe that the UNLIMITED NEVER-ENDING resources of God may be just one step of faith away? Are you beginning to expect a GUSHER?
It’s your move…

What is a key element that could possibly be missing in so many spiritual lives today? Do we have enough faith? Do we have enough hope? Or could it be that we’re just not – getting it? Well, I think we are missing something else.

There is a verse in the New Testament of the Bible (Romans 5:3-4) that says pressure (tribulation) produces endurance (perseverance) and endurance produces character. Character is the iron in the spine – the moral steel – the grit in the gut so to speak. And we never really see character until the heat is turned up and the pressure is on. It’s who we are when no one is watching. It wraps itself in things like courage, resolve and determination.

I believe we are missing character in this generation because we have not learned to endure when life doesn’t go our way. Let’s not delude our people in the pews by teaching them that God is some type of “super Santa Clause”. Let’s teach the kind of faith that says we WILL GET THE PROMISE. And God will grant us the strength to endure if necessary.

It’s your move,

What’s Going On (.?!) No, it’s not a typo. I just couldn’t decide between asking you the question or referring to the old Marvin Gaye hit on social commentary. Just trying to get your blog juices flowing. At any rate, my spell check is now thoroughly confused.

We just recently opened Angela’s Building. It’s designed to be a place of hope and achieving seemingly impossible dreams. I’ll tell you more in another blog one day.

Speaking of something better…

For awhile now, we have listened to what’s wrong with our country, our government and even our churches (which seem to be strangely silent especially when we need the voices of spiritual, moral and social clarity). We are dealing with unemployment, overcoming a recession and regaining some sense of national stability.

My friends, I refuse to allow myself to be hurled down this dark pit of hopelessness – sucked into some godless void by a few hopeless voices. You know these voices well. They’re on your job, on TV, and shhhh…quiet…even in some pulpits.

I want a better tomorrow for our children and ourselves. Since that kind of attitude has to start somewhere, I’ve decided to let it start with me – and hopefully infect you. I Expect Something Better. I know there are some things I’ve written that will open up debate – good. There are many points to debate – to twist as if trying to solve a Rubik’s Cube. However, blessed brevity is always in order so I’ll stop for now. I expect something spiritually, socially and economically better – just Expect Something Better!

Dr. Ed

It’s your move…

If you decide to lease an apartment, buy a house or purchase a car, most of us apply for credit. We fill out pages of paperwork, sign our name and then wait…wait…wait for approval. They said it would only take 10 minutes – its been an hour. Finally….someone walks in or calls us. They say the words that stop our hearts from pounding -You’re Approved! From that moment we call our friends and family and say – I got it!!! Notice, we have no key or signed contract from the lender at this time. We are literally taking someone’s word that the thing we want will come in the future. That’s called faith.

For the last few decades, we have been searching for the best deals – the best job, the best marriage/relationship, the best church or most celebrated Pastor. But when things go wrong, we get up and leave without ever trying very hard to figure out or maybe even fix the problem.

We don’t seem to be trying to fix our churches or make them better. If there’s something we don’t like – we just leave. Could it be that this pattern of living has filtered into every area of our lives…even into the lives of our children?

Who out there feels the way I do – that it’s time to take ownership (responsibility) for the precious gifts God has given us? Everyone else seems to come together, even passionate enough to try to run a new candidate for President. Do we just sit back and let others claim ownership for what is our right also? I think not. It’s time to rise up with people of faith.

Awaken Your Spirit

Ed

Now, it’s your move…

Several years ago, a man by the name of Dr. Myles Monroe spoke to me in front of an audience of over 2000. He told me no longer to see myself as a mere pastor or preacher. He said I was to see myself as a Spiritual Educator – a Spiritual Life Builder.

Now that you know where the term Spiritual Life Builder came from, allow me to come right to the point…

I want to build one of the most fantastic churches ever! It will be comprised of the most fantastic people ever! People from all over Houston who want a better life – as well as people from all over America and the World connected through the internet and social media.

The concept of this church will flow from the hearts of people – all people – beyond race, background, denomination, and age groups. Yes, we all can name churches that already fit this description, but have YOU ever built one? Something like this would take a lot of help and a lot of work (especially in the area of social media—I’m just learning).

However, I believe the Best Is Yet To Come! It must begin with leaders listening to people, not just our typical churchgoers, but also ALL people. We must hear the hearts of people and then discover God’s plan for that heart. Tell me…

What do you desire in life?
What’s on your mind concerning our economy?
What are you praying for?
What would you REALLY like to say if you could be heard by the world?

Of course, I am not expecting you to answer every one of these questions. So just pick one or two…whatever you like. You may even have a question for me! You may want to say something that has nothing to do with what I’m asking – feel free.

Dear Friends,

In a recent press conference, the President of the United States quoted that famous line – “The buck stops here”. It means that someone is actually willing to take responsibility for tough challenges and not pass the tough decisions on to be made by someone else.

I also recently heard a report about how much tougher life is for African-Americans than it is for other races in our nation. The one being interviewed called for President Obama to fix the alleged disparity.

Well, I am less concerned about arguing the validity of this report than I am about where some want to “pass the buck “. THIS buck should not be laid at the door of the White House but laid at the door of the Church House.

The President has enough on his plate dealing with the economy. I think some pastors, church leaders and ordinary , sit-in-the-pew members can handle this – that is if we are STILL in the pews.

I believe a well-known secular prophet once said it best…”I don’t want nobody to give me nothin – open up the door…” I believe our faith can open doors! Isn’t it time we get back to that kind of attitude? TALK TO ME…
