What would you do if God appeared before you and asked you what He could give you?

Certainly you wouldn’t ask Him for a car, a house or a million dollars, would you?

There is an incalculable level of blessings – the blessings that you can’t even ask for. But before you can get to this level, you have to know three things:

Know who you are

Know what you want

Know what you are willing to give back to the world

When you can answer these three things, you can move into the incalculable level of blessings.

I’m asking you today to answer these questions. Who are you? What do you want? And what are you willing to give back?

Talk to me!

My grandparents grew up in Alabama and later migrated to the north. Although they left the south, they still brought southern ways.

One day I was watching television. It was a sunny day outside but quickly grew dark and overcast. I heard crackling thunder and saw flashes of lightning. Then it happened.

My grandmother promptly turned off all the lights, unplugged most of the appliances and then turned off my TV. She whispered to me not to talk. The only explanation she gave…”God is moving”.

It seems those old people believed God moved in a storm. They believed you should shut down the non-essentials and put a pause on your pursuits until the storm passed. My grandmother turned off the TV and made me miss the ending of the show – the good part.

Our country is in a storm. Our lives are surrounded by storms. Even the Church -not just the one you go to but the one we all go to – is in a storm.

Maybe we should shut down for a moment, turn off the TV and wait.

35 years later, I found the old TV series I was watching that day “God was moving”, on DVD. I always blamed God for what I missed.

I found the episode. I found the part I missed. After all these years I discovered that while God was moving – I didn’t really miss anything worth my time.

Can you recall a time when you blamed God for a storm but later realized He was moving on your behalf?

Talk to me!

Dr. Ed

I’ve been away for awhile. Did you miss me?

I apologize for the long gap in between.

I took some time to really talk in depth with people, all kinds of people. I discovered a common thread that runs through us all.

We all want to be seen. We all want to be heard. But most of all, we all want to know we are viewed by someone who sees our value.

An encounter with God brings with it a powerful, overwhelming sense of personal value.

Do you remember your first encounter with God? Think back. When did you feel that striking sense of self worth?

Prayer is not verbalized begging. It is not the luck of the draw or the roll of the dice. Prayer is not asking for God, some higher power or the universe to make something magically appear out of thin air. It would be nice if it worked that way but it doesn’t.

To ask means to CALL FOR. Imagine you are in the kitchen and dinner is ready. Each family member is in a different room. You cannot see them but you know they are there. When you call them, you expect them to show up. They may delay, so you call again.

Asking for something in prayer is calling for something. You cannot see the answer but you expect it – you know it’s there. And in time it’s coming around the corner.

Do you have an answered prayer story? Tell me. Please, keep it as short as possible.

Someone may need to hear your story.

First of all, I would like to say, “thanks” to all of you who took precious time to weigh in on such a subject. I read your comments and they obviously helped to fill in the gap of my ignorance.

Your insights and commentary have written this summary for me.

The song in question is about men in a strip club throwing lots of money in the air (making it rain), watching girls scramble for it and then hopefully doing whatever…to make it rain again.

The message our youth are getting is that you can make FAST MONEY by doing whatever- sex is for sale.

But the main thing that disturbs me is that they are “getting crunk” by the message. And don’t believe it when they tell you…”I’m not listening to the words, just the beat of the music.”

READ THEIR LIPS when the song is on!

I wish more “spiritual” people would get up and get a little more CRUNK about going to church – a little more CRUNK about the Good News.

Did I use CRUNK correctly?

Maybe I need to go pray!

There are a few things about this subject that concern me. One of the concerns is- Now how do you spell “crunked”? This word is giving my spell check a nervous fit.

I first heard the word crunked from a radio personality who attends our church. I heard it again used by a parent to describe the reaction of their teen to a particular song.

“When this song comes on about “Makin’ It Rain”, my young teen girls jump up and start dancing. They get CRUNKED on this song! I’m very concerned about the message this song sends”, she said.

Somebody please tell me what this song is, what it’s about and who made it so I can finish my blog for next week.

A little help please.
