God-Money-Race-Politics. We need healing in our land, Now!

Politics and race certainly can make for heated discussions. Now add challenges with money/economy and the temperature in America goes up. I’m beginning to hear about some things on the campaign trail that concern me. We are seeing negative politics, racial overtones and even certain segments of the church (which should be praying I might add) publically taking political sides. This has raised my eyebrow.

Topic: Could we be on the verge of seeing deeper racial divisions in America if we’re not careful? Especially in the church? What’s going on out there? What are you hearing? Talk to me.

Well, for a start, I see God’s hand upon this great country. Of course, we all see differently, and I supppose many people especially AA are seeing the racial divide in the current political terrain. I don’t see it! We deserve the government we have, and we’ll deserve the leaders we vote for in a couple of days.

As Christians, most of us AA are blinded by race or color of skin, andwe are not bothered about what God is saying. I ask, “what’s God’s mind on this election?”

Even if we don’t agree on an answer, we should all agree that as christians, we need to uphold and protect the principles of God’s Kingdom in this country. What’s God saying about killing innocent children? What’s God saying about same-sex marriage?

I don’t think economy is the main issue. The economy is a consequence of the main issue! As a nation, and a Christians we have abandoned God, and the His word. What do we expect?

Pastor Montgomery you are so right when you speak about the church of Jesus Christ being caught up and almost swept away in this area of politics. I work with a gentleman who at one time told me that he believed in Jesus as his savior but because of His political views hopes that we can remain friends. I just said if we are bro. and sis. in the Lord then it’s the love of God that is the tie that binds us, via e-mail. If there is a division it will be the things that one chooses to see or use to divide. He is a white man and I’m a black woman. I’m born again for over twenty years and it doesn’t matter to me how you vote,I love God more than anyone and have been working on loving what He loves and hating what He hates. Discord among the family of God. It’s very deep and CNN DISPLAYS it 24/7. God bless you. Sis J. Thomas

Pastor Ed, how would you feel if a member of your congregation for almost twenty years suddenly abandons you BECAUSE of politics? What values and legacy are we passing down to future generations? it is a great insult and a shameful thing for a “so called” believer turned politician to denounce a man of God for political gains. He has indirectly denounced God. It’s in the scripture! Let’s be careful.

By the way, I am a proud AA, but firstly a son of the Most High!

I wrote about this very subject in my book Self Judge Meant. As a person who has traveled abroad extensively, I have gained more insight on politics and religion. Let me also state that I am not AA, I’m Black American. I was never colonized and it would take a history lesson in order for others to know who they really are and not what someone told them. People perish for lack of knowledge. Some people have used religion to hide their true feelings and this election has made what was hiding in the dark come to light. Ask any fellow so-called Christian of a different race, if it’s OK for you to marry someone of the opposite sex in their family and see their reaction. Is that “On Earth as it is in Heaven?” Today we see with some of the televangelists, that Race still plays a factor in their Politics and their Church, however they have no problem asking you to send them money. As we know, the most segregated day for Christians in America is still Sunday. Is the world following the Church or is the Church following the world?
I think the many challenges we face today and will face in the future has more to do with a generational divide than a racial divide. Once we ignore seperation of Church and State, anarchy and chaos are inevitable. The God I serve is still in control. He will never leave me nor forsake me. His Grace is sufficient, His Mercy endures forever, and His Love is unconditional.

I keep hearing “racial overtones” and as much as I’ve kept an eye on this race, I honestly haven’t heard any except for the people complaining of them. Certainly questionable facts of cultural upbring, associations, and political history are perfect things to look at and consider when you decide to support someone.
Tony mentioned about leaving a church and how that is denouncing G-d? From the different audio I’ve heard from that “preacher” I don’t know what god he was preaching about but it’s certainly not my G-d, He did good in leaving what ever the reason and attempting to compare Dr Montgomery to that man as though he could be in a similar situation is rediculous.
The truth is that according to Daniel 2:21 G-d changes times and seasons; He sets up kings and deposes them. We may have diferences in who we choose to support or vote for, but G-d will ultimately decide who and for what purpose will be president.

Sam just wrote he doesn’t know what G-d Obama’s former pastor was preaching about, and this guy stayed in the same church for TWENTY years, NOT twenty days, monthos or weeks. TWENTY YEARS! Oh come on, let’s be truthful! Got married there, baptized his two daughters there, and you don’t know what G-d he was talking about. Then we need to know which G-d, Obama claims!
God already chose who the next president is, and he’s not necessarily the better person, or the best person around, but to serve God’s purposes at this time.

God Bless you and your Family,We must keep our foucas on the Lord and you are right about this can pull us far a part.Just today i heard someone yell out at a MacCain event KILL HIM THIS CAN GET VERY,VERY ,VERY NASTY,your thought Dr.M

I hope we are not on the verge of any deeper racial divisions in America. I hope that those in every ethnic group who are blinded by race and skin color will find within themselves the ability to press pass this issue. The segments of the church that have publically taken political sides recently are not fighting to keep God first in this nation. Nevertheless, this current election will force Americans to come to grips with more than just political and economical issues. Through it all we can not put our hope and trust in the invisible hand that guides the markets. We must keep our hope and trust in the invisible hand that no one can pluck us out of. And that is the hand of the true and living God in whom we live and move and have our being. Let’s Give Glory 2 God Saints!

Many people voice opinions in the disguise of being Christians, but are nothing but hypocrites. Church and Politics will never coincide. Do you think most politicians really care about their constituents as they receive hugh donations – millions of dollars from special interests. Christians must put all their faith and guidance in GOD not man – man will deceive.
This is a critical time and we must question our choices and make sure they are not prejudice in any way. Then we can really feel we are fulfilling GOD’s will.

Yes, I also agree with Sam, i don’t know how denouncing the pastor is also denouncing God!! Unless, of course, u are equating the pastor with God, as most christians in America are now doing with celebrity pastors. I don’t agree with any of the comments Tony has left and his ideaologies are somewhat funny to me. Gay marriage & abortion are not the only issues God cares about as Tony and the republicans seem to think! God cares about social injustice too as well as other important issues. Go read your bible and u will see for yourself. A lot of things have already shifted in the spiritual and u will see more shifting going on in the natural. Thank God, God is not white, black, American or any other nationality. The only thing we should live for and exalt as believers is the Kingdom of God, and not any other kingdom/empire of any sort, be it secular or church. when we believers really start to take our place spiritually, it really won’t matter that much “who” is in office as we will ensure that the kingdom of God is the kingdom with the dominant influence over all. That’s when there will truly be peace on earth.

May God continue to bless you, your family and the ministry of Abundant Life, Pastor Ed. I agree that this Presidential Election could further divide an already divided country. Race and prejudice has been interwoven in this country for so long and has left many emotional and even physical scars. I believe that the only way for us to heal
as a people is through the love of God. Each and every person on this Earth is made in the image of God. His Word says that we are to be kind and
tenderhearted towars one another. Until we get back to being obedient to God’s Word and truly showing the love of Christ to each and every person we will continue to have this problem.
Racism is a spirit and its goal is to destroy each of us from generation to generation.Jesus is our only answer..I,too, struggle at times with racism on my job,at the grocery store, at the movies, etc.
But I am learning to pray for those who are my enemies and leaving it in God’s hands, because
only the Holy Spirit can change someone’s heart.
It changed mine…So when I vote in this upcoming election I am confident that God will put into office the man who was born for a time such as this….

Dr. Montgomery, Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family…I pray that our country will finally come together as one nation and know that African Americans as well as any other minority group can qualify and be elected to lead our nation and we are all Americans no matter what the color of our skin is or our religion preference and we as Christians know or should know that God is in total control of every situation that we are faced with and Paster Montgomery you weekly remind us of the fact that God is in control and with Him all things are possible….Thank you so much for all of your encouragement, which certainly makes my life easier…………….

Acting Freddie Mac CFO found dead
David Kellermann, Freddie Mac’s acting chief financial officer, apparently hanged himself this morning in his home in Hunter Mill Estates. I am watching all of these things happening in the industry that I have been a part of and from top to bottom CEO’s, CFO’s, and management are losing their minds especially in the lending areas of banking. Pastor I have been in the banking industry for a total of about 15 years now. And regardless of all that is going on in the world I still have my job. I have been thinking about a career change but for some reason I keep hanging in here. And I know it’s maily because of the WORD and how you teach us. And if people listen to and here what you are saying they will find the peace in the midst of all collamity. There is a standard that is pressing for the people of God to embrace and those who ignore it are the ones that fear and may suffer longer than most. I’m sorry but there is a lot on my mind and I just wanted to let you know that I have an endurance that astounds me because of the strength that you have reminded me that I have. If we really knew who we are then times like these wouldn’t even phase us.
